The world’s first lip-dub proposal.

A year ago today, a boy fell in love with a girl… and shared it with the world…

*Cue the rewind music!*

We see a lot of proposal stories here at Union Diamond, and while every one is special, it’s rare to find a proposal that really makes us stop and watch. Isaac Lamb pulled off one of those very proposals when he asked girlfriend Amy Frankel to be his wife. I’m sure some of you by now have an idea of which proposal I’m talking about, I mean, it has over 14 million hits on youtube already and only about 300 of those are from our office, we promise. But what you may not know, is the story behind the video. Continue reading

Come celebrate the colors of gold!

We talk about a lot of things on this blog, and most of them involve diamonds. But what about that stuff that we set the diamonds into? What about gold? Sure the diamonds are gorgeous, but it’s the setting that really transforms them into something truly unique. Well, that, and it’s really hard to wear a loose diamond, it tends to keep falling off your finger. True story.

So today we’re going to talk about gold, and why it looks the way it does. What makes it gold, or silver, or rose, or purple, or blue. Wait, what? Continue reading

That’s some “brooch”!

Ok, so who here is a fan of America’s Next Top Model? I’m sure that’s every one of you, but just in case it’s not, here’s the gist. It’s a show about models, competing to be America’s Next Top Model. Got it? Great. But seriously, it’s a show where aspiring fashion models get put through the photographic wringer in a variety of stunts and fashion shoots that are reality tv gold. And one season, the girls walked in a fashion show, but this wasn’t your ordinary show where a girl walks down the runway alone, no, this time she had a buddy. Continue reading

The myths and lore of Emeralds!

In honor of the month of May, I thought we’d take a moment to bask in the myths and lore surrounding one of the most noble gems. Also, ancient Chinese wisdom states that it’s lucky to wear emeralds on a Thursday so there you go. And let’s take bets now on whether or not emeralds can save one from disease and poison since it seems that every single birthstone so far has held this mythical prowess. Continue reading

Giant Emerald Crystal unveiled just in time for those with May birthdays and deep pockets!

I might have said this before, but I love when jewelry news articles start out with adjectives like Huge, Incredible, and Massive. Because then I know that this is going to be one spectacular piece of jewelry/ rough. Although, truth be told, I’m pretty sure that I’ve never seen an article about a normal, everyday, half carat diamond. It just doesn’t happen. Probably because a half carat diamond, while pretty, isn’t exactly a stop the presses event. Not like this piece that grabbed my attention this morning by using the word massive. Continue reading

Derby Hats, Horses, and Jewelry!

The Kentucky Derby is tomorrow and it has been brought to my attention that in my quick research about the history of the derby itself, I forgot to look at the names of the horses vying for this year’s title. Now, normally this wouldn’t be a problem because the strange world of horse naming couldn’t possibly have anything to do with a blog about hats or Union Diamond, but I was wrong. Continue reading

Jurassic Park: The Engagement!

It’s Throwback Thursday and for this Union Diamond Rewind we’re reaching way back to last June for this Jurassic Park Proposal! *Cue the rewind music!

As the resident diamond and jewelry expert in my group of friends, it’s not unusual for them to come to me for advice or questions. Although I frequently get a bit too excited and their eyes have glazed over by the time I get to things like crown angles and total depth percentages. So ok, they only asked me what the difference was between white gold and platinum, I just can’t help myself. But my favorite is when I’m enlisted to help plan an engagement ring. It’s like being let loose in a candy factory and being told that I can pick anything I want, but that I don’t have to pay for it. This, I’m sure, is why professional shoppers exist. Anyways, last week, I was approached by a friend of mine on behalf of her boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend’s cousin’s roommate. Ok, so I had to change the familial relationships on the off chance that this person reads this blog, but trust me, I’m sure it is just that complicated. So naturally, with my thoughts in an engagementy sort of place, I was super excited when I stumbled upon this proposal that would never work for 99% of the population, but was ever so perfect for the couple involved.
