Happy National Proposal Day and First Day of Spring!

Spring is in the air! All around me I can hear a symphony of hacking and wheezing. Hey, it’s the south and the pollen is bad, so bad. The entire world seems coated with a thick layer of greenish yellow dust. I however, am not allergic to pollen, YAY me! So that leaves me free to enjoy the flowers and the birds chirping and what’s that I hear? A proposal? Of course! It’s the first day of spring, but more importantly it’s National Proposal Day! And yes, just like Talk like a pirate day and Cupcake day, I did not make this up. Promise.

Leap Year Rewind: Will You Marry Me Fred?

Ok, so this year wasn’t a leap year… and while we’re happy to keep the year one day shorter, we do miss Leap Day and all of its shenanigans. Because on what other day does the world spin backwards, the IRS disband, the grass turn blue, and women ask their men to marry them. Ok, so maybe that never happens, I wish some of it would though, blue grass and no taxes? Wohoo! But wait, one of those was true. On Leap Day, chance favors the bold when women get down on one knee instead. So let’s journey back and get a look at just where that tradition came from and why it’s so great that it should be celebrated every year, February 29th or not! *Cue the rewind music! I’m sure these will help you out the next time you’re on jeapordy… or not, but at least we’re having a good time right? Yep, thought so.  Continue reading

The world’s first lip-dub proposal.

A year ago today, a boy fell in love with a girl… and shared it with the world…

*Cue the rewind music!*

We see a lot of proposal stories here at Union Diamond, and while every one is special, it’s rare to find a proposal that really makes us stop and watch. Isaac Lamb pulled off one of those very proposals when he asked girlfriend Amy Frankel to be his wife. I’m sure some of you by now have an idea of which proposal I’m talking about, I mean, it has over 14 million hits on youtube already and only about 300 of those are from our office, we promise. But what you may not know, is the story behind the video. Continue reading

Jurassic Park: The Engagement!

It’s Throwback Thursday and for this Union Diamond Rewind we’re reaching way back to last June for this Jurassic Park Proposal! *Cue the rewind music!

As the resident diamond and jewelry expert in my group of friends, it’s not unusual for them to come to me for advice or questions. Although I frequently get a bit too excited and their eyes have glazed over by the time I get to things like crown angles and total depth percentages. So ok, they only asked me what the difference was between white gold and platinum, I just can’t help myself. But my favorite is when I’m enlisted to help plan an engagement ring. It’s like being let loose in a candy factory and being told that I can pick anything I want, but that I don’t have to pay for it. This, I’m sure, is why professional shoppers exist. Anyways, last week, I was approached by a friend of mine on behalf of her boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend’s cousin’s roommate. Ok, so I had to change the familial relationships on the off chance that this person reads this blog, but trust me, I’m sure it is just that complicated. So naturally, with my thoughts in an engagementy sort of place, I was super excited when I stumbled upon this proposal that would never work for 99% of the population, but was ever so perfect for the couple involved.
