Junk Shop Treasures

If you have children, you probably have a slew of pretty “costume” jewels rattling around in your drawers. Thea Jourdan was no exception to this rule. She obtained most of the ‘treasures’ from junk shops around town to the delight of her daughter Imogen. Imogen’s favorite piece was a pretty orangey-pink stone surrounded by imitation diamonds in a brooch. It was one of those perfect pieces that almost looked real and at £20 it was a steal, perfect for princess dresses or a hair accessory.

From the Auction Block: The Beau Sancy

With truly royal connections, French, English, and Prussian to be precise the Beau Sancy diamond is one for the books. Weighing in at 35 carats, the rose cut diamond has been described as flawless and colorless. For the past 300 years it has been passed down from generation to generation of the House of Prussia and is currently owned by 36 year old Prince Georg Friedrich, great-great-grandson of the final German Kaiser.

In a galaxy far, far away…

Have you ever heard the song, Lucy in the sky with diamonds? Well, it plays a fair amount on our office radio station and it was playing this morning when I stumbled upon an interesting article. Apparently, not only is the sky full of diamonds, some of them are emerald cut. If you’re now envisioning a zillion ton emerald cut diamond floating by the moon, you’re a bit off, but it’s ok, because that was the first thing I thought of too. It seems that this emerald shaped phenomenon is a small dwarf galaxy, named LEDA 074886 about 70 million light-years away. I’m not exactly sure how far away that is but it’s a lot more than the starship Voyager had to contend with and it was going to take them a lifetime to get home. So, pretty far I would say.

Huguette Clark: a mystery with sparkle!

There are two things in this world that are fairly universally loved, at least by me, jewelry… and intrigue. And lucky for you, today’s blog has plenty of both. It is the story of a young heiress named Huguette Clark who came of age in the midst of the roaring twenties in a family that had money to burn, and boy does her jewelry collection show it. Rahul Kadakia of Christie’s said that, “In the world of fine jewelry, this is truly a fairytale collection. Opening the vault to find this treasure trove of period jewels from… the early 1900’s has certainly been one of the most extraordinary moments of my 15-year career here at Christie’s. The iconic Art Deco design and exceptional craftsmanship of these meticulously preserved jewels are emblematic of the great Gilded Age in American history.” I bet you’re excited to see them now, aren’t you?

Hooray for Halos!

I would like to start off today’s blog with a confession. I love halos, and not the type seen on Angels and baby Jesus, although those are nice as well. . I’m talking diamond encrusted halos around diamonds. Because what’s better to put on your diamonds but more diamonds? And we are so excited to have a gorgeous and varied line of halo rings on our website! *Cue cheering and applause* Seriously, they’re that great.  Continue reading

3.04 Carats of D, IF LOVE

There’s a saying in the jewelry industry, “There’s a diamond for everyone”. And it’s true; there is a perfect diamond for every client, whether that diamond is an E color or a K color, VS1 or SI1, everyone has their own unique type of diamond that they love. However, I happen to have one stone sitting on my desk that anyone would adore. It is 3.04 carats, D in color, and Internally Flawless. This diamond is so perfect, that the GIA had it shrink wrapped for freshness. Ok I joke on the freshness part, but the diamond really is sealed in tamper-proof packaging. Isn’t it beautiful? The diamond that is, although the packaging is equally as lovely I’m sure. Continue reading
